India as a country has a vast
number of Churches that are not just for worship but also for the architecture
and how it was built. Many of them were built during the British era and some
by the French and Portuguese. These churches were built more than hundred years
ago and are still talked about by people for its magnificent architectural
style.

1. Christ Church, Shimla: Built in neo Gothic Style
The Christ Church in Shimla
is the 2nd oldest in North India. It is positioned on the ridge where it stands
out as one of the most important landmarks in Shimla. The Christ Church is

CATHEDRAL is built is in Portuguese monocline. The interior of the church is
Corinthian and the exterior part of the church is Tuscan.
The Se Cathedral Church is
about 250 feet in length and breadth of about 181 feet. The frontispiece is
about 115 feet high. The Se Cathedral Church in Goa is one of the largest Churches
in Asia.

3. Our Lafy of Dolours Church, Trichur: Largest Church
in India
It is the largest Church in
India and the third tallest in Asia. The church is famous for its Gothic Style
of architecture. It's amazing interior decorations incorporate specimens of
scenes from scriptures, images of saints etc. A church that is worth visiting.

4. St. Anne Church, Talaulim, Goa: Excellent Architecture
and Most Ostentatious
ST. ANNE CHURCH follows the
Indian architecture with Western propensities to adopt the 5x5 scheme correct
and ideal the Indian way, but changes the proportions of the pilasters as per
the native flavour. The church can be also termed as the perfect piece of the
Indian Barouque Style. It was included in the World Monuments Watch 2000 list
of 100 most endangered sites.

5. St. Aloysius Chapel, Mangalore: Stunning Paintings
This was built in the year
1885 and also matches the famous Sistine Chapel at Rome. It has some amazing
paintings on the ceiling, fresco paintings and oil canvas paintings which
depicts different scenes from the Holy Bible. The ceilings include portraits of
St. Aloysius Gonzaga and many different saints.

6. Moravian Church, Leh: Highest Church
The Moravian Church in Leh is
located at a height of more than 11,000 feet. The church is also one of the
most highest located churches in the country. It has it's own charm in terms of
architecture.

7. Medak Cathedral, Telangana: Biggest Diocese in Asia
and Second in the World
The length of the Cathedral
is about 200 feet long, 100 feet wide and has the Gothic Revival Style. The tiles
were imported from Britain and have 6 different colours. Masions from Italy
were engaged in layering the flooring. Huge pillars built with fine hewn and
grey colour stone support the gallery. The roof of it is made in such a way
that it is sound proof and has an amazing style of vaulting as well. The
surface of the vaulting is square shaped. The height of the bell tower is 175
feet.
